{"id":1436,"date":"2026-06-27T16:09:13","date_gmt":"2026-06-27T16:09:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.irenala.edu.mg\/EN\/?p=1436"},"modified":"2026-06-27T16:27:39","modified_gmt":"2026-06-27T16:27:39","slug":"responsible-management-of-research-repositories-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.irenala.edu.mg\/EN\/responsible-management-of-research-repositories-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Responsable Management of Research Repositories Program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This workshop brought together representatives from Malagasy universities and research institutions to present and promote the <strong>DSpace as a Service<\/strong> platform as a shared and sustainable solution for the management, preservation, and dissemination of scientific digital resources in Madagascar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The workshop was held from <strong>15 to 17 June 2026<\/strong> at the <strong>Ibis Hotel \u2013 Ankorondrano, Antananarivo<\/strong>, and was conducted by <strong>iRENALA<\/strong> and <strong>UbuntuNet Alliance<\/strong>.<br>TRAINING PROGRAM:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Clearly and accurately define an open institutional repository.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explain why repositories are important for research visibility, access to results, and institutional reputation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Describe the librarian&#8217;s role as manager, curator, trainer, and advocate for the repository.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assess the starting point for their own institution.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clearly and accurately explain the basic structure of DSpace.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Distinguish between communities, collections, records, and digital files.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Describe the main user roles, permissions, and workflow steps.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Navigate a DSpace repository with confidence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recognize the librarian&#8217;s operational responsibilities within the platform.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assess institutional readiness for implementing or strengthening a repository.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify the minimum governance, policy, human resource, and workflow requirements for success.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop advocacy messages tailored to different audiences, including management, researchers, and partner units.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Outline practical next steps for action within their own institutions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explain what metadata is and why it is important for repository visibility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apply Dublin Core field logic in a DSpace environment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recognize common metadata quality issues and know how to correct them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interpret the FAIR and CARE principles in the practical work of managing a repository.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure metadata curation based on the FAIR and CARE principles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recommend appropriate licenses and rights.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have a clear understanding of the distinct roles of authentication and authorization.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Understand, assign, and manage appropriate roles and responsibilities within the DSpace environment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explain how metadata aggregation works and why it is essential for research visibility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assess whether their repository is ready for metadata aggregation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify and correct common metadata quality issues that hinder discoverability.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify the essential policies required for an academic repository.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Distinguish between mandatory (essential) and recommended (desirable) policies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Understand the purpose of each policy and the risks it aims to address.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Describe the key components that each policy should contain. &#8211; Begin drafting or revising institutional policies related to the repository.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All participants will be integrated into the UbuntuNet Pan-African Open Repository Community of Practice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This workshop brought together representatives from Malagasy universities and research institutions to present and promote the DSpace as a Service platform as a shared and sustainable solution for the management, preservation, and dissemination of scientific digital resources in Madagascar.
