SANGAREDDY – INDIA

The Finite Geometry and Coding Theory CIMPA School took place from November 20 to December 1, 2023, at the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad in Sangaredddy, India. The organizers of this school were Mrinmoy Datta from the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, India, and Trygve Johnsen from The Arctic University of Norway, Norway.

The primary aim was to offer participants from India and neighboring nations an extensive understanding of finite geometry (or Galois geometry) and coding theory, delving into both foundational concepts and cutting-edge developments. During this school, the participants were very involved in the courses, and interacted a lot with the speakers, showcasing high levels of involvement.

L'école CIMPA sur la géométrie finie et la théorie du codage s'est déroulée du 20 novembre au 1er décembre 2023, à l'Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad à Sangaredddy, en Inde. Les organisateurs de cette école étaient Mrinmoy Datta de l'Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad, en Inde, et Trygve Johnsen de l'Arctic University of Norway, en Norvège.

L'objectif principal était d'offrir aux participantes et participants indiens et des pays voisins une compréhension approfondie de la géométrie finie (ou géométrie de Galois) et de la théorie du codage, explorant à la fois les concepts fondamentaux et les développements de pointe. Tout au long du programme, les participantes et participants se sont activement engagés dans les cours et ont largement interagi avec les intervenantes et intervenants, démontrant ainsi un haut niveau d'implication.

MUIZENBERG – SOUTH AFRICA

The CIMPA school on "Blockchain in Theory and Real Applications" occurred from November 20 to December 1, 2023, hosted at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in Muizenberg, South Africa. The organizers of this school were Ulrich Paquet (AIMS, South Africa) and Jorge Urroz (Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña and Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain). Vlady Ravelomanana (University of Paris, France) was the scientific officer of the school.

Participants from various African countries, including Benin, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Nigeria, Madagascar, South Africa, and even from India, attended the workshop. The sessions covered diverse topics like cryptography, zero-knowledge proofs, and decentralized finance (DeFi), introducing cutting-edge concepts in blockchain technology and cryptocurrency. This event fostered an enriching environment for learning and practical application in the realm of blockchain technology.

L'école CIMPA "Blockchain in Theory and Real Applications" a eu lieu du 20 novembre au 1er décembre 2023, accueillie à l'Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) à Muizenberg, en Afrique du Sud. Les organisateurs de cette école étaient Ulrich Paquet (AIMS, Afrique du Sud) et Jorge Urroz (Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña et Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Espagne). Vlady Ravelomanana (Université de Paris, France) était le superviseur de l'école.

Des participantes et des participants de divers pays africains, dont le Bénin, le Cameroun, la République démocratique du Congo, le Sénégal, le Nigeria, Madagascar, l'Afrique du Sud, et même de l'Inde, ont assisté à l'évènement. Les cours ont abordé des sujets variés tels que la cryptographie, les preuves à divulgation nulle et la finance décentralisée (DeFi), introduisant des concepts de pointe dans la technologie blockchain et les crypto-monnaies. Cet événement a créé un environnement enrichissant pour l'apprentissage et l'application pratique dans le domaine de la technologie blockchain.

VITORIA – BRAZIL

The CIMPA school "Non-Associative Algebras and Related Topics" was held at the Federal University of Espírito Santo from December 4 to 15, 2023. The coordinators were Renato Fehlberg Júnior (Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, Brazil) and Friedrich Wagemann (Université de Nantes, France). Supervision was provided by Rosane Ushirobira (Inria, France).

The school aimed to educate graduate students and young researchers on non-associative algebras such as Lie, Leibniz, incidence, and genetic algebras, investigating their applications and deformations.

Participants were provided with foundational knowledge prior to exploring advanced topics. The courses encompassed applications in geometry, physics, biology, and other fields. In addition to lectures, problem-solving sessions and discussions on open problems were conducted.

L'école CIMPA "Non-Associative Algebras and Related Topics" s'est tenue à l'Université Fédérale d'Espírito Santo du 4 au 15 décembre 2023. Les coordinateurs étaient Renato Fehlberg Júnior (Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, Brésil) et Friedrich Wagemann (Université de Nantes, France). La supervision a été assurée par Rosane Ushirobira (Inria, France).

L'école avait pour objectif de former les étudiantes et étudiants de troisième cycle et les jeunes chercheuses et chercheurs aux algèbres non associatives telles que les algèbres de Lie, de Leibniz, d'incidence et génétiques, en étudiant leurs applications et leurs déformations.

Les participantes et participants ont reçu des connaissances de base avant d'explorer des sujets avancés. Les cours comprenaient des applications en géométrie, en physique, en biologie et dans d'autres domaines. En plus des cours magistraux, des sessions de résolution de problèmes et des discussions sur des problèmes ouverts ont été organisées.

PONDICHERRY – INDIA

The CIMPA School on "Post-Quantum Cryptography" took place at Pondicherry University in India from December 11 to 21, 2023. It addressed the threat posed by quantum computers to current cryptography, exploring quantum-resistant systems through new mathematical problems. Coordinated by Chithralekha Balamurugan (Pondicherry University, India) and Elisa Lorenzo García (Université de Neuchâtel, Switzerland) the program covered quantum computing, associated mathematical theories, and practical sessions, overseen by Christophe Ritzenthaler.

L'école CIMPA "Post-Quantum Cryptography" s'est déroulée à l'université de Pondichéry en Inde du 11 au 21 décembre 2023. Elle a abordé la menace posée par les ordinateurs quantiques sur la cryptographie actuelle, explorant des systèmes résistants à ces derniers grâce à de nouveaux problèmes mathématiques. Coordonnée par Chithralekha Balamurugan (Université de Pondichéry, Inde) et Elisa Lorenzo García (Université de Neuchâtel), le programme a couvert l'informatique quantique, les théories mathématiques associées, ainsi que des sessions pratiques, sous la supervision de Christophe Ritzenthaler.

DANGBO – BENIN

From December 8 to 23, Professor Alain Togbe from Purdue University Northwest (USA) conducted a CIMPA course at the Institute of Mathematics and Physical Sciences in Benin. Since 2013, Professor Togbe has been teaching regularly at IMSP and mentoring numerous IMSP students. During his stay, he taught a course on algebraic number theory to first-year Master's students. The course covered concepts of algebraic number fields, algebraic units, and class groups. The secondary objective of the visit was to mentor his current Master's and Ph.D. students.

Du 8 au 23 décembre, le professeur Alain Togbe de Purdue University Northwest (USA) a animé un cours CIMPA à l'Institut de Mathématiques et Sciences Physiques au Bénin. Depuis 2013, il enseigne régulièrement à l'IMSP et encadre de nombreux étudiantes et étudiants. Durant son séjour, il a dispensé un cours sur la théorie des nombres algébriques pour les personnes en première année de Master, abordant les concepts clés tels que les champs de nombres algébriques, les unités et les groupes de classes. Par ailleurs, sa visite visait également à encadrer ses étudiantes et étudiants actuels en Master et Doctorat.

EMALCA – COLOMBIA

Between December 11 and 22, the Universidad Industrial de Santander hosted the Días de Combinatoria 2023, an EMALCA school offering four introductory mini-courses and their respective problem-solving sessions. These courses aimed to provide participants with a solid grounding in combinatorics and related fields, preparing them for other upcoming events in the region, including the Colombian combinatorics meeting ECCO 2024. Organised by Federico Castillo, Laura Colmenarejo, Alexander Holguin and Carlos Arturo Rodriguez Palma, the courses covered topics such as hyperplane arrangements, the symmetric group, Stanley Reisner rings and polynomial functions on simplicial complexes, enriching participants' understanding of combinatorial mathematics.

EMALCA – COLOMBIA

Entre le 11 et le 22 décembre, l'Universidad Industrial de Santander a accueilli les Días de Combinatoria 2023, une école EMALCA proposant quatre mini-cours d'introduction et leurs sessions de résolution de problèmes respectives. Ces cours visaient à fournir aux participantes et participants des bases solides en combinatoire et dans des domaines connexes, les préparant ainsi à d'autres événements à venir dans la région, notamment la réunion colombienne de combinatoire ECCO 2024. Organisés par Federico Castillo, Laura Colmenarejo, Alexander Holguin et Carlos Arturo Rodriguez Palma, ces cours portaient sur des sujets tels que les arrangements d'hyperplans, le groupe symétrique, les anneaux de Stanley Reisner et les fonctions polynomiales sur les complexes simpliciaux, enrichissant ainsi la compréhension des mathématiques combinatoires des participantes et participants.

The “Pays du Sud” Chair at the Center International de Rencontres Mathématiques (CIRM) in Marseille, France, represents an exceptional opportunity for collaboration between a researcher affiliated with a university or research institute in Africa and a researcher from a French establishment (University/CNRS).

This chair aims to encourage and support a fruitful collaboration between these two researchers for a period of one to two months at CIRM, where they will have the opportunity to work together on an innovative research project in their respective fields. In addition to their research activities, the beneficiaries of the chair will be encouraged to organize academic and scientific activities around a specific theme, thus promoting exchanges and the dissemination of knowledge.

La Chaire "Pays du Sud" au Centre International de Rencontres Mathématiques (CIRM) à Marseille, France, représente une opportunité exceptionnelle de collaboration entre un chercheur ou une chercheuse affilié.e à une université ou à un institut de recherche en Afrique et un chercheur ou une chercheuse d’un établissement français (Université/CNRS).

Cette chaire vise à encourager et à soutenir une collaboration fructueuse entre ces deux chercheurs pendant une période de un à deux mois au CIRM, où ils auront l'opportunité de travailler ensemble sur un projet de recherche novateur dans leur domaine respectif.
