GOVERNING BOARD AND GENERAL ASSEMBLY

CONSEIL D'ADMINISTRATION ET ASSEMBLÉE GÉNÉRALE

On Friday June 14, we had the pleasure of hosting CIMPA's Governing Board and General Assembly, held in hybrid mode.

These meetings provided an opportunity to: review recent activities, present the budget for 2023, elect the new members of the Governing Board, Present the "International Master in Mathematics" project…

It is always a real pleasure to be able to meet face-to-face, to take the time to exchange ideas and to strengthen our various collaborations.

We would like to express our gratitude to the Université Côte d'Azur which has hosted the CIMPA headquarters for several years, and to everyone who has taken part in these events. Special thanks to Barry Green (President), Annie Raoult (Vice-President), Viet Dung Nguyen (Secretary), and to Fatima About and Servet Martinez, individual members whose term of office expires at the end of the year, for their commitment and valuable contribution to CIMPA. We would also like to welcome the new members of CIMPA and the Governing Board: Cécile Armana, Sophie Dabo-Niang, Jorge Mozo-Fernandez, Helena Judith Nussenzveig Lopes, Patrick Mimphis Tchepmo Djomegni, Joachim Yameogo, and Rahim Zaare-Nahandi.

Le vendredi 14 juin, nous avons eu le plaisir d'accueillir le Conseil d'administration et l'Assemblée générale du CIMPA, tenus en mode hybride.

Ces réunions ont permis de passer en revue les activités récentes, de présenter les comptes de l'année 2023, d'élire les nouveaux membres du Conseil d'administration, d'introduire le projet « International Master in Mathematics »…

C'est toujours un réel plaisir de pouvoir nous rencontrer en présentiel, prendre le temps d'échanger des idées et de renforcer nos diverses collaborations.

Nous tenons à exprimer notre gratitude à l'université Côte d'Azur, qui héberge le siège du CIMPA depuis plusieurs années, ainsi qu'à toutes les personnes ayant participé à ces événements. RESULTS OF THE "PAYS DU SUD" CHAIR LAUNCHED BY CIRM IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CIMPA

The theme of CIRM's first "Pays du Sud" chair is "Geometry and Surface Dynamics". The first laureates are Masseye Gaye (Professor at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, Senegal) and Jean-François Quint (CNRS Research Director at Montpellier University in France), who will be based at CIRM until August. This programme complements CIRM's initiatives to support and collaborate with the African mathematical community, such as the CIRM-AIMS programmes, the CIRM-CIMPA fellowships and the CIMPA-ICTP fellowships. Funded by the CNRS with the support of AfriMath, CIMPA, the city of Marseille, the International Mathematical Union, Aix-Marseille University, the CNRS and the Société Mathématique de France, the programme aims to host African and French researchers for scientific collaborations.

La première chaire "Pays du Sud" du CIRM a pour thème "Géométrie et dynamique des surfaces". Les premiers lauréats sont Masseye Gaye (Professeur à l'université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar, Sénégal) et Jean-François Quint (Directeur de recherche CNRS à l'université de Montpellier, France), qui s'installent au CIRM jusqu'au mois d'août. Ce programme complète les initiatives du CIRM pour soutenir et collaborer avec la communauté mathématique africaine, telles que les programmes CIRM-AIMS, les bourses CIRM-CIMPA et les bourses CIMPA ICTP. Financé par le CNRS avec le soutien d'AfriMath, du CIMPA, de la Ville de Marseille, de l'Union Mathématique Internationale, d'Aix-Marseille Université, du CNRS et de la Société Mathématique de France, le programme vise à accueillir des chercheuses et chercheurs africains et français pour des collaborations scientifiques.

ÉCOLE CIMPA

CAPE COAST – GHANA

From June 2 to 15, a CIMPA school on "Analysis and Numerics of Partial Differential Equations" was held at the University of Cape Coast. The organizers of the school were Stephen Edward Moore (University of Cape Coast, Ghana) and Sidi Mahmoud Kaber (Sorbonne Université, France).

The aim of the school was to introduce participants to several numerical techniques and analysis in Partial Differential Equations (PDEs).

Du 2 au 15 juin, une école CIMPA sur "Analysis and Numerics of Partial Differential Equations" s'est tenue à l'université de Cape Coast. Les organisateurs de l'école étaient Stephen Edward Moore (University of Cape Coast, Ghana) et Sidi Mahmoud Kaber (Sorbonne Université, France).

L'objectif de l'école fût d'introduire les participantes et participants à plusieurs techniques numériques et à l'analyse des équations différentielles partielles (EDP).

HO CHI MINH CITY – VIETNAM

The CIMPA School on "Applied Number Theory" took place at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education (Vietnam) from June 3 to 14. The coordinators were Nguyen Thi Nga (Ho Chi Minh City University of Education) and Benjamin Wesolowski (CNRS & École normale supérieure de Lyon, France). The supervision was provided by Olivier Ramaré (CNRS / University of Aix-Marseille, France).

The aim of this school was to introduce students to some aspect of (algorithmic) number theory and arithmetic geometry and the very fruitful interplay between those subjects and the applied disciplines of cryptography and coding theory.

L'école CIMPA "Applied Number Theory" s'est déroulée à la Ho Chi Minh City University of Education (Vietnam) du 3 au 14 juin. Les coordinateurs étaient Nguyen Thi Nga (Ho Chi Minh City University of Education) et Benjamin Wesolowski (CNRS & École normale supérieure de Lyon, France). La supervision a été assurée par Olivier Ramaré (CNRS / Université d'Aix-Marseille, France).

L'objectif de cette école était d'introduire les étudiantes et étudiants à certains aspects de la théorie (algorithmique) des nombres et de la géométrie arithmétique, ainsi qu'à l'interaction très fructueuse entre ces sujets et les disciplines appliquées de la cryptographie et de la théorie du codage.

POPAYAN, COLOMBIA

From June 17 to 28, a CIMPA school on "Bridges between Algebra and Combinatorics" was held at the Universidad del Cauca, Colombia. The organizers of the school were Jhon Jairo Bravo (Universidad Del Cauca) and Viviane Pons (Paris-Sud University, France). The supervision was provided by Joachim Yameogo (Université Côte d'Azur, France).

The main objective of the school was to bring young mathematicians from the region into close contact with international researchers and leading experts in various fields of combinatorics and its applications. The aim was to promote mathematical research in a motivating environment and to consolidate a regional research network in combinatorics.

Du 17 au 28 juin, l'école CIMPA "Bridges between Algebra and Combinatorics" s'est tenue à l'Universidad del Cauca, en Colombie. L'organisateur et l'organisatrice de l'école étaient Jhon Jairo Bravo (Universidad Del Cauca) et Viviane Pons (université Paris-Sud, France). La supervision a été assurée par Joachim Yameogo (université Côte d'Azur, France).

L'objectif principal de l'école était de mettre les jeunes mathématiciennes et mathématiciens de la région en contact étroit avec des chercheuses et chercheurs internationaux et des expertes et experts de premier plan dans divers domaines de la combinatoire et de ses applications. Le but était de promouvoir la recherche mathématique dans un environnement motivant et de consolider un réseau régional de recherche en combinatoire.

SOUSSE, TUNISIA

The CIMPA School on "Ordered Structures and their Applications in Finance and Machine Learning" took place at the Pristini School of AI campus (Sousse, Tunisia) from June 18 to 28. The coordinators were Mohamed Amine Ben Amor (Faculté des sciences de Tunis and Institut préparatoire aux études scientifiques et techniques of Tunis) and Pedro Tradacete (Instituto De Ciencias Matemáticas, Spain). The supervision was provided by Annie Raoult (Université Paris Cité France).

The school focused on two key areas: mathematical finance and stochastic calculus, as well as machine learning.

Les coordinateurs étaient Mohamed Amine Ben Amor (Faculté des sciences de Tunis et Institut préparatoire aux études scientifiques et techniques de Tunis) et Pedro Tradacete (Instituto De Ciencias Matemáticas, Espagne). La supervision a été assurée par Annie Raoult (université Paris Cité, France).

L'école s'est concentrée sur deux domaines clés : la finance mathématique et le calcul stochastique, ainsi que l'apprentissage automatique.

The school took place from June 17 to 21, 2024, at the facilities of the Cuernavaca Unit of the Institute of Mathematics.

The main coordinator of the school was Aubin Arroyo from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.

ASIAN AND EUROPEAN SCHOOLS IN MATHEMATICS (AESIM) – ARMENIA

The school "A Gentle Introduction to Data Assimilation and HPC – Applications on an HPC platform" took place at the Université Française en Arménie (Armenia) from June 15 to 23, 2024. The coordinators of the school were Fabrice Gamboa (Institut de Mathématiques de Toulouse, France) and Salwa Nacouzi (Rectrice Université Française d'Arménie).

The course focused on data assimilation and HRC applications for Masters students.

L'école "A Gentle Introduction to Data Assimilation and HPC – Applications on an HPC platform" a eu lieu à l'université Française en Arménie du 15 au 23 juin 2024. Le coordinateur et la coordinatrice de l'école étaient Fabrice Gamboa (Institut de Mathématiques de Toulouse, France) et Salwa Nacouzi (Rectrice Université Française d'Arménie).

Le cours s'est concentré sur l'assimilation de données et les applications HRC pour les étudiants en Master.

An African mathematics school entitled "Mathématiques et informatique pour l’économie" was held at the University of Burundi from June 17 to 28. The school's main coordinator is Ménédore Karimumuryango, Dean of the Institut de Statistique Appliquée "ISTA", Burundi.
